Gladstone’s Ward’s Brewery recognised on the international stage at major beer awards

Gladstone’s craft brewing scene is celebrating a major achievement, with Ward’s Brewery taking out Best International-Style Pale Ale at the prestigious 2026 Australian International Beer Awards.

The award-winning Pale Ale was recognised at the internationally renowned competition run by Melbourne Royal, which attracts entries from breweries across Australia and around the world. 

For Ward’s Brewery owner Michael Comley and Head Brewer Paul Bergamini, the win marks an important milestone not only for the brewery, but for the growing reputation of Gladstone and Central Queensland as a destination for quality craft beer and hospitality.

“This recognition is not just about the beer, it’s about Gladstone and what can be created here,” Michael said. 

Located in the heart of Gladstone’s CBD, Ward’s Brewery has built a strong following for its independently brewed beers, community atmosphere and locally crafted hospitality experience.

Since opening, the brewery has become well known across Central Queensland for its small-batch brewing approach, live music events and commitment to bringing people together through great beer and local connection.

Head Brewer Paul Bergamini said the award reflects the passion and attention that goes into every brew produced at the brewery.

“Our mantra is quite simple in that we want all our beers on tap to be approachable, a pleasure to drink and give our customers a great beer drinking experience,” Paul said. 

The Australian International Beer Awards are regarded as one of the largest and most respected annual beer competitions globally, judged by an international panel of brewing experts across a wide range of categories. 

The win further strengthens the Gladstone Region’s growing reputation for unique local experiences, quality hospitality and locally crafted products.
