Day 1: WATERFRONT WANDERS & COASTAL ROAD TRIPS

Start your winter school holiday escape slowly in Gladstone with breakfast by the water, a wander through the East Shores and Gladstone Marina precincts, then take in the harbour views from Auckland Hill Lookout.

Spend the morning soaking up the mild winter sunshine along the waterfront before settling in for lunch or an afternoon drink overlooking the marina. Winter in the Gladstone Region is all about slowing down, enjoying the outdoors and making the most of those clear blue-sky days.

In the afternoon, hit the road and make your way south to Agnes Water and the Town of 1770. Once you arrive, keep things relaxed with a walk along Agnes Water Beach, a sunset stop at the 1770 foreshore or dinner at a local tavern before settling in for the night ahead of tomorrow’s adventure.

Day 2: Go all in on the Paradise Tour

Today is the reason to stay longer. Start early and board the iconic pink amphibious 1770 LARC! for the full-day Paradise Tour/ This is one of those experiences that immediately feels different. You travel through national parks, over sand, across estuaries and into remote coastal country that most visitors would never reach on their own.

The hero stop is Bustard Head Lighthouse, Queensland’s only publicly accessible operating lighthouse. Along the way, the day includes lunch and sandboarding, so it is not just about sightseeing. It is scenic, playful and distinctly local, with that mix of adventure and landscape that makes the Discovery Coast so memorable. Because the tour finishes around 5pm, staying a second night in Agnes Water or 1770 makes this itinerary feel relaxed instead of rushed.

Day 3: One more easy Discovery Coast morning

After a full day of adventure, keep your final morning slow and simple.

Start with breakfast at a local café before taking one last walk along Agnes Water Beach. Stop in at the 1770 Headland and Lookout, breathe in the ocean air and soak up those relaxed Discovery Coast vibes before beginning the drive home.

Winter mornings here are calm, crisp and perfect for lingering just a little longer — no rushing, no packed itinerary, just time to properly enjoy the coast before reality kicks back in.

Three easy days is all it takes to turn the winter school holidays into something more than a quick getaway. A relaxed harbour day in Gladstone, two nights on the Discovery Coast and a full-day Southern Great Barrier Reef adventure is the perfect way to slow down, recharge and experience the best of the Gladstone Region this winter.
