Local coffee brewing at Gladstone Visitor Information Centre

Read Time:
Visitors to the Gladstone Region can now take home a taste of the Discovery Coast, with the Gladstone Visitor Information Centre beginning to stock locally roasted beans from 1770 Coffee Co.
The move is the first step in a refreshed approach by Gladstone Area Promotion and Development Ltd (GAPDL) to showcase locally made products through its visitor information centres.
GAPDL Interim CEO Dee Dalton said the initiative aims to prioritise local makers and producers over mass-produced souvenirs.
“Our Visitor Information Centres are evolving to better reflect the character of the Gladstone Region,” Ms Dalton said.
“Rather than stocking generic items, we want visitors to discover products that are made here, tell a story about our region and directly support local businesses.”
Located beside the Heron Island and Wilson Island ferry terminal, the Gladstone Visitor Information Centre is increasingly welcoming domestic and international travellers visiting the Southern Great Barrier Reef.
“We’re seeing changes in visitation coming through the centre before and after trips to Heron and Wilson Islands,” Ms Dalton said.
“Those visitors are often looking for something bespoke or meaningful to the region – something they can’t buy anywhere else. Locally roasted coffee is a great example of that… and of course, it’s beautiful branding.”
Owner of 1770 Coffee Co, Grace Scoble, said the partnership with GAPDL aligned with the direction of the local business.
“When Dee reached out, it made sense for the direction we’re heading as a business,” Ms Scoble said.
“We’re passionate about showcasing the Discovery Coast and creating products that reflect the lifestyle and community we’re part of in Agnes Water and Town of 1770.
“It’s exciting that visitors travelling through Gladstone can now take home a little piece of that experience.”
GAPDL is now inviting local makers, artists and producers interested in stocking their products in the Gladstone and Agnes Water Visitor Information Centres to get in touch.
“This is just the beginning,” Ms Dalton said.
“Our vision is for our visitor centres to showcase the creativity, produce and stories of the Gladstone Region.”
