Cruising into the GLADSTONE REGION

Gladstone isn’t just a port of call -it’s a destination

Since welcoming its first cruise ship in 2016, Gladstone has proudly established itself as a truly unique Queensland cruise destination – where the Great Barrier Reef meets a thriving harbour city.

Cruise ships berth directly at the purpose-built Gladstone Ports Corporation (GPC) Cruise Terminal, located within the award-winning East Shores Precinct. With one of the world’s largest natural deepwater harbours, Gladstone provides smooth, direct access for cruise vessels – no tenders required. Passengers step straight from ship to shore, with the CBD, dining, and attractions just a short stroll away.

The East Shores Precinct is home to Auckland House, the Gladstone Maritime Museum and the newly re-opened Auckland Hill Lookout, only 133 steps away! This family-friendly waterfront parkland provides the perfect welcome, including a water play park! On cruise days, the Feast on East Markets transform the precinct into a festival atmosphere with live music, local art and crafts – a warm community welcome unique to Gladstone.

The Gladstone Region begins approximately 450 kilometres north of Brisbane. As the gateway to the Southern Great Barrier Reef, the region contains some incredible natural wonders, including Heron Island, Lady Musgrave Island, Masthead Island, North West Island and Wilson Island.
To the south, the natural surrounds of the Discovery Coast will entice you to discover the burgeoning township Miriam Vale, the spectacular beaches of Agnes Water and the birthplace of Queensland in the Town of 1770. From here, you can also spend a day experiencing the breathtaking reef adventures of Lady Musgrave Island and Lagoon.
The Gladstone Region is not just all about the coast and islands though! To the southwest you will find the spectacular Boyne Valley. This area abounds with opportunities for intrepid travellers to explore the spectacular hinterlands and nearby Kroombit Tops National Park.
At the centre of the region is the city of Gladstone. Known for being the ‘engine room of Queensland’, this dynamic regional city is full of surprise and unexpected experience. Surrounding Gladstone are townships of Calliope, Mount Larcom, Benaraby, Boyne Island and Tannum Sands. This part of the region is home to many fishing hotspots including one of Australia’s premier freshwater fishing locations, Lake Awoonga.
