Each year the Gladstone Region plays host to Australia’s biggest family fishing competitions including the Boyne Tannum Hook Up, Tannum Crab Classic and the Baffle Creek Family Fishing Festival
The Boyne Tannum HookUp is Australia’s Biggest Family Fishing Competition, with both adult and junior categories. This 3-day event is held in a beautiful location of the Central Queensland Coast at Boyne Island. The Boyne Tannum HookUp is held annually with the aim of bringing together friends, family, businesses, supporters and sponsors from all parts of Australia to enjoy a great community event.
With a prize pool worth over $320,000, the event attracts thousands of registered fishing competitors and visitors to Bray Park, Boyne Island where fishing weigh-ins, family entertainment and delicious food is provided over the three days of competition.
The Boyne Tannum HookUp Association works incredibly hard to make the Boyne Tannum HookUp one of the Gladstone Regions most professional and prestigious events. The Boyne Tannum HookUp has run annually for the past 24 years and hopes to continue, as an event for families to enjoy all over the region.

“Mates catching crabs for a greater cause”. The Tannum Crab Classic is in its 10th year of preparation by supporting local families in need of medical equipment. The weekend getaway for the 50 blokes in the opportunity to get their name and bragging rights on the annual trophy for the biggest mud crab caught.
The Baffle Creek Family Fishing Festival is hosted by the Baffle Creek Fishing Club. The recreational fishers take to the fantastic waters around Baffle Creek as often as they choose during the week-long event, vying for great prizes.
In 2017 the competition became purely ‘Catch, Snap & Release’. Our fish stocks and the health of our river systems are important to us. Although, you are welcome to take one home for dinner. At the end of a fun-filled week of fishing and exploring our beautiful area, our local sports grounds will come to life with bush style entertainment, festivities and fun for all.
