What's On: Australia Day in the Gladstone Region

In true Australian style, we know many of you will flock to the beach, fire up the barbie and enjoy a few cold bevvies this Australia Day! But…that's not the only way to celebrate our fair nation.

Check out some of the festivities and events that are on in the Gladstone Region this Australia Day; 

Kick off the Australia Day celebrations with a family fun run for all ages and abilities. There will be a 2km and 5km course (for those who like a challenge) that will take you along the pathways through the stunning Marina Parklands.

When: 26th January 2018
Where: Gladstone Marina Stage, Bryan Jordan Drive
Time: Registrations begin at 6:15am for a 7:00am start
Cost: $5 entry or $20 per family

It's Gladstone's biggest and best Aussie event of the year. Bring the kids down for the exciting celebrity cook-off, tonnes of water play and children's activities, live music, 1000 free sausages and so much more! Cash only food vendors will also operate.

When: 26th January
WhereTondoon Botanic Gardens, Gladstone
Time: 8:00am – 12:00pm
Cost: Free

Car parking will be available in the Meteors Sports Grounds (opposite Tondoon Botanic Gardens) for a gold coin donation.

Hire a stand-up paddle board or kayak and spend Australia Day the Australian way… 100% Aussie tunes will be playing all day, with plenty of chances to win a prize. You'll have to get in quick to claim a BBQ and sheltered gazebo, otherwise pack a light lunch and explore the natural surrounds.

When: 26th January
Where: Lake Awoonga, 865 Awoonga Dam Road
Time: 8:00am - late
Cost: Free, however cost of equipment hire will vary. Donations accepted for Gladstone Special Olympics fundraiser

If spending the day in air-con is more your style, then the Harvey Road Tavern has you covered. Friday's Australia Day event will include a mechanical bull, pie eating competition, bikini & boardies contest, plus plenty more games and giveaways. On Saturday, the Sydney Trio 'Art vs Science' will be performing and 'Let there be ACDC' will be rocking out a free show Sunday afternoon.

When: 26th January – 28th January
Where: The Harvey Road Tavern, 1 Harvey Road
Time: Times vary for each day
Cost: 18+ Art vs Science ticket $25

Giant Inflatable at Gladstone Aquatic Centre

Jump into Australia Day at the Gladstone Aquatic Centre! There will be not only one, but three giant inflatables will be available all day….and the best part is, it's all free. Snacks and drinks available for purchase at the canteen.

When: 26th January
Where: Gladstone Aquatic Centre
Time: 10:00am – 4:00pm
Cost: Free

If nothing beats a traditional beach trip with family and friends this Australia Day, then why not head to Tannum Sands and support the local fundraising efforts for the Tannum Sands Surf Life Saving Club. The day will include a fundraiser BBQ held on the beach, games and of course… beach cricket!

When: 26th January
Where: Tannum Sands Main Beach
Time: 10:00am – 2:00pm
Cost: Donations accepted
