The Gladstone Region has a world wide reputation as Australia’s emerging economic powerhouse.  We are a dynamic part of Queensland on the move which encourages investment in many shapes and forms. Currently, the Gladstone Region has over $20 billion worth of projects either under construction, under investigation or recently completed.  To put this into perspective, investment our region represents a quarter of Queensland’s and just over 4% of Australia’s wealth. Therefore, our region’s standing as one of Australia’s most important economic hubs in Australia is justified. Over recent years our region has made a name for itself in terms of booming growth and development.  From the huge growth in coal exploration and mining in Banana and Monto Shire and multimillion dollar tourism ventures in the Miriam Vale Shire to the industrial development in Gladstone City and Calliope Shire, the Gladstone Region destined for long term prosperity and growth.

Industrial and infrastructure development is not the only factor in the Gladstone Region's continued growth. The region is making a name for itself in the domestic and international tourism arena. Close access to the world-class sections of the Southern Great Barrier Reef, untouched natural wonders, pristine beaches and real rural hinterland has made the region popular amongst tourists. In fact, During January to June 2006 Gladstone Area Promotion and Development Limited’s Visitor Information Centres recorded a 41% increase in tourists as compared to the same period in 2005.
