Monto Gold Bucket Camp Draft

Camp drafting is one of Australia's premier horse sports. This event involves riders and cattle. At the Monto Gold Buckle Campdraft they do nearly 1000 runs in two and a half days, with competitors coming from all over Queensland, New South Wales and the Northern Territory. Live weigh-in is encouraged with release at the weigh-in facility. The Coconet Classic is now one of the largest Kite surfing competitions in Australia, and this year there will also be a Battle of the Bands, Skate/BMX/Inline and Scooter competition in this weekend event. There is also free face painting for the kids, sandcastle building competitions, t-shirt painting comps, a huge charity raffle (valued at over $3000) and loads more action. Monto Annual Cattle Drive

Mount up is the call, and the cattle drive begins from Les and Rhonda Roth's property up Roths Road, around ten clicks from Monto. We then leisurely pace through the Coominglah Forestry to the first stop for an afternoon of novelty events, yarns, story telling, bush poetry and lively country music. Retire for the evening after a traditional drovers dinner of beef stew and damper, then for dessert plum pudding washed down with billy tea with its distinctive gum leaf flavour. Crawl into your swag and doze off to the sounds of the night, camping out in the open forest ready to wake on Sunday morning for the return trip. Costs are $100 for adults, $55 for children aged 9 to 15years, with family and concession discounts available. There will be free camping at Monto Showgrounds Friday and Sunday night, with meals for visitors on Saturday night at $12.

The Calliope River Historical Village comes to life on this huge day of markets! There’s food, stalls, brick-a-brack, vegetables and plenty of rides for the kids including a pet farm and train ride. A visit to the Calliope River Historical Village is a walk down memory lane, past some of the early buildings from the area including the old pub (not used as a pub anymore), church and the Raglan Dance Hall. 1770 Festival

The 1770 Festival is an annual four day event celebrating the birth of Queensland. It is held along the foreshore at 1770 on the closest weekend to the landing of Lieut. James Cook at Bustard Bay in the year 1770. This year the Festival will be held from Thursday 22nd May to Sunday 25th May and includes a variety of entertainment for the whole family. A film night, live music, street parade, performers, an evening of comedy, markets and a fireworks display are all highlights at the Festival. To launch the festivities, the 1770 Festival Art Exhibition Opening Night will be held at Sandcastles 1770 Motel & Resort on Thursday Night, 22nd May. Southern Cross Retreat will host the Film Night on Friday showing variety of films, both imported and local. A street parade kicks off the entertainment for Saturday, followed by a re-enactment of the landing of Cook and Crew. A vast line-up of entertainment is also planned for Saturday ranging from young dancers, solo acts and contemporary bands suitable for both children and adults. An impressive fireworks display over beautiful Bustard Bay will introduce the exciting entertainment program for Saturday night. Lisa Hunt and her 5 piece band, all the way from the USA will be headlining the Festival with a night of Soul… Sweet Soul Music. Lisa is an international Star who has been winning rave reviews everywhere and will also be a headliner at the Byron Bay Blues and Roots Festival in March. The markets will be held on the 24th and 25th May, 2008 with trading from 9am through to 11pm on Saturday and 9am to 4pm on Sunday. A visit to the Calliope River Historical Village is a walk down memory lane, past some of the early buildings from the area including the old pub (not used as a pub anymore), church and the Raglan Dance Hall. Entry is a gold coin donation and the markets are run from 8.00am to 4.00pm. The Calliope River Historical Village is located on the Bruce Highway, six kilometers north of Calliope and roughly 35 minutes west of Gladstone.
